Seeking Gothic Wiccan

Non Geo on January 3, 2009 at 11:46 am

Having a scanner is fantastic. I think everyone should have scanners and websites. I really hope this guy finds the witch that makes this wand swish.

I like how he tries to increase his odds with a massive age range.

I'm pulling for you bud.

The acronyms people use in their ads are insane. I had to look up some because I couldn't even guess what they were trying to say.

SWPF – Single White Professional Female
HWP – Height Weight Proportional
WiWM – Widowed White Male
Wild Music – Although not an acronym I am still not sure what wild music is.

Island Grove circa 1940

Non Geo, The Interwebs, United States on December 24, 2008 at 2:57 am

I was linked to this set of images of the 1930s and 40s uploaded by the Library of Congress and the first dozen or so photos are of Brockton and surrounding areas.

Then I came to this photo marked as Skating, vicinity of Brockton, Mass.

And I knew it was of Island Grove almost immediately so I went ahead and took a picture from a similar location.

And to top it off I downloaded GIMP, which is like the poor man's photoshop and put my picture in place of the old one.

I thought it was pretty neat, but I'm easily amused. I got the idea because on a different photo a woman posts a current day image in the comments and the Library of Congress updated the image's information based on her photograph.

Library of Congress rules.

Well, this is new.

Sometimes I start tweaking a website, and then I go a little nuts.

This isn't what I intended the site to look like when I started, but I get to deleting things and there's no going back.

Is it vain to have a picture of yourself on your website like that ^

I don't have a huge selection of pics to choose from. All the pictures of me in China were taken by Steve's mom and she never sent me copies. So that one will have to do for now.

Edit: Replaced the pic with my ugly mug for random pictures I've taken. I have about 8 in cycle right now I think. At the time I write this all the images are of China, but I'll keep adding them until there is no possible way you can ever see them all.

Direct all complaints about the new look to someone@else.com.

Sort out your map

I was perusing the government's travel website because I like to see where in the world they consider unsafe to travel to. But check out their map.

Basically screw continents, we're going to chop this bitch up properly.

North and South America are "The West."
Europe is Europe.
Asia is, well, Asia is a bitch to categorize and group.
But how are you going to tell me Egypt is not in Africa.
What happened to the Middle East? Are we not calling it that anymore?
NESCA is lame.

Don't change my maps.

Adventures in Domaining

I didn't get out of bed until 5pm today, but turns out that was perfect timing.

I checked my inbox and there was an email from GoDaddy for authorization to transfer a domain that I did not request. So this catches my attention. Then the email is deleted soon there after by not-me.

Some asshole is trying to steal one of my domains while I'm sitting there watching.

I've had my share of unsavory encounters on the internet… Read full post »

College Tour

Umass Amherst, United States on November 11, 2008 at 4:16 pm

Since I've been back I've been sort of cruising around visiting friends.

I haven't visited a ton of schools, I keep running into these kids when they aren't at school which thwarts my plans.

I've gone to…
Umass Amherst
Providence College
Sienna College
Rensselaer Polytech

Visited with or hung out with kids representing…
(as far as I know)
Umass Amherst
Providence College
Sienna College
Rensselaer Polytech
Bridgewater State
Keene State
Dean College
UConn
Framingham State

And today I got into Umass Amherst because I don't feel like living in Virginia. No travel plans right now. Kind of want to climb something, but it's sort of past that season. I guess I'll just have to ski down something instead.

Book of the Read Club

Non Geo on November 6, 2008 at 3:43 am

I decided after reading the book Paper Towns in one sitting that I am going to force it upon the poor souls that are the children I know. Which gave me the idea of making a list of sorts of books I think people in general should read.

That list is here.

I wish it was longer. I'm going to come back to it and add more as they come to me or as I read them. An endless list of awesome literature would be good.

It sort of looks like a High School reading list, so sue me. But if you read all the ones on the list you're well on your way to hating the government. It's 3am when I write this so I'm not exactly alert enough to recall the names of every book I think is worth reading.

Did I mention I'm hijacking this site and making it my personal website. It was already my own website, but it was my travel website. Now it's sort of a what I'm doing website.
Is that allowed?

I'm going to write something about what I've been doing, but I don't want to double post. I'd rather let this sit on top for a while.

Home

United States on September 26, 2008 at 4:57 pm

Being thwarted by pesky reservations I spent 3 nights relatively homeless.

When I got to Vienna I tried 8 hotels, every single one I could find, and all were booked up. Can you believe Austria has a busy season. After having this happen in Munich I figure Austria was a pretty no name country so I wouldn't have this issue.

A lot of conferences were in town, oh come on.

So I walked the streets of Vienna from 10pm-6am which was not fun and was not planned.

When I found out there was not gonna be any rooms for me I went back to station to get a train to anywhere and the guy tells me there is only a night train back to Munich. Proving how much of a no name city you are. When you only have 2 trains leaving at 11pm your not exactly winning any popularity contests.

And no, I don't want to go back to Munich especially not on a night train again.

In the morning I went back to Munich's International Airport and flew Munich to Paris to JFK. My mom and sister picked me up in NY because last time I flew into the shit hole that is JFK I was stuck there for 9 hours Read full post »
